Acadia is one of America’s most treasured national parks. The park’s 40,000 acres contain some of the most varied and dramatic scenery anywhere: countless glacier-carved granite cliffs, seventeen mountain peaks, dozens of islands and fresh-water lakes, salt marshes, and the only fjord on the east coast of the United States. Fifty miles of beautiful criss-crossing carriage paths and a twenty mile, two-lane Park Loop Road accommodates the most adventurous to the most cautious tourist.
Nestled on the eastern shore of this spectacular national park is the bustling tourist village of Bar Harbor.
Activities within the park and Bar Harbor include kayaking, biking, swimming, whale watching, nature and sailing cruises, hiking, and carriage rides. Other attractions include fresh and saltwater beaches, museums, art galleries, oceanariums, and the world-renowned Jackson Laboratory. The large number of unique retail shops and restaurants in Bar Harbor are second to none.
